Watercolors by Winsor and Newton, pocket size
I've used this set since starting college and it's beautiful. Has all the main colors you'd ever want to start working. Super portable, easy to carry around. Lasts a long time.
If you ever want to go a bit deeper into watercolor, the paper is pretty much your most important tool. I've seen better paper than Canson, but overall the value for these are great to get you started. 12x18" I use for my bigger to medium work, the smaller pad I use for everything here and there.
Watercolor Paper by Arches (Professional)
This pack of five can be a bit pricey, but it's totally worth it if you want the size and professional feel of the paper. I could live and die by the quality feel of the paper in your hands, and under the bristles of the brush.
This brush is pretty decent, but there's lots of those! What I like about this one is that the tip was very soft when touching the paper, but still kept the point. Draws a good amount of ink. With some practice you can get both the wet looks of ink, or the dry brush, highly textured feel.
Since I go decently fast through the cartridges for the brush pen, these have been a companion buy to them. Will buy one of these about once a year.
I've upgraded to this tablet since 2016 and haven't regretted it since. The size is decent, and gets the job for a decent price.
After 4 years of use I broke their pen, because some part of me thought it'd be interesting to pull it apart. It's not easy to do, but if you ever lose your pen or break it like me, here's an easy replacement.
